Physicians make the worst patients. One of the most frustrating and at once humbling experiences is for a doctor to become a patient. It is so hard to take rest; to stop all activities andtake forced bedrest. Sleeping constantly, being helpless and depending on others for help frankly sucks.
So when the ubiquitous "they" say "physician heal thyself" what on earth do they mean? Does it mean we are not to get sick? Or perhaps we are meant to get better faster? Or prescibe our own medicine? Most likely we are meant to listen to our own advice......so what would I tell someone else in my shoes? That the body has an incredible power to heal if one listens to its message and can cooperate.
Take rest, listen to your body and sleep until you start to recover; right. It is the third morning I have had to sleep in and rest, so good night and let my body heal.
